The path behind UntetheredAtom.
I am an experimental materials scientist working across surfaces, interfaces, microscopy and mechanics. My work connects atomic-scale structure with how materials really behave. UntetheredAtom grew out of the need to make hard materials problems clearer, more rigorous and easier to reason about.

Same question at every step, at a smaller and smaller scale: why do materials fail where they touch?

Every one of us has sat in front of a page, read the same paragraph three times and still not understood it. I have done it more times than I care to admit (usually the night before microscope time). UntetheredAtom exists because I wanted a place where those concepts could be seen and touched, not just read. Every explanation here is interactive, every tool runs in your browser, and none of it costs anything or asks for your data. My hope is simple: that a student somewhere, stuck on the same idea I was stuck on, finds it a little easier because this page was here. This site is also a work in progress and I would love your help. If something is wrong or broken, report it. If there is a topic you wish existed here, suggest it. Every message makes the next page better.
